One-Eyed Golden Retriever Was Crowned People's Cutest Rescue Dog!

This one-eyed rescue dog was crowned People's World's Cutest Rescue Dog Contest Presented by Pedigree!

Sweet, Penny is a 4-year-old golden retriever from Silver Spring Maryland, and has won over the hearts of judges beating over 10,000 other dogs in the contest.

Penny is the lucky winner of a year supply of Pedigree dog food, an appearance on the Today show and $1,000 donation to Kyra's rescue, the rescue that saved her life.

Penny's owners rescued her from Kyra's Rescue in Washington D.C., which is a nonprofit specializing with saving this specific breed. Kyra's started saving abandoned dogs from the streets and shelters in Turkey, flying them to the United States in hopes to find their forever home!

“She was the best birthday present I have ever received...she has made our family closer and happier.” her owner Anne Occhialino told PEOPLE.

Penny's new family feel truly blessed to have her apart of their lives.

“That’s what is so amazing about Penny. She is such a resilient dog,” Occhialino says. “She had this terrible thing happen to her, but she is still joyful.”
