Superior Foods Company in Kentwood (Michigan) is recalling nearly 500 pounds of smoked salmon spread that may be tainted with listeria.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, elderly people, pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems.
Some of the symptoms include high fever, nausea, muscle stiffness, severe headaches, pain in the abdomin and diarrhea.
The foods included in the recall were produced on March 26, have a sell by date of April 25.
The lot number is 0728-2. The recalled products include:

- Simply Superior Smoked Salmon Spread | Six 5 oz. units| Code: 92379 | UPC: 043823923798
- Morey’s Smoked Salmon Spread | Six 6 oz. units | Code Number: 92503 | UPC: 043823925037
The recall is for these products that were sold in grocery stores and food service businesses in five states, including Michigan.
If you discover you have this recalled salmon spread, throw it out or return it to the store for a refund.
