After years of belligerently ripping off the elderly and immigrants, scam/con artists are directing their attention to college students. They’ll call their potential targets rambling about money owed on “Federal Student Tax.” It sure sounds legit but it’s not because there is no such tax.
According to Detroit Free Press Personal Finance Columnist, Susan Tompor, notes that “The crooks making the bogus phone calls sound convincing. Some millennials and others have rushed to put anywhere from $500 to $1,500 on the plastic prepaid cards sold at drug stores and mega-discount chains.”
This is a note to all students that if you get a call asking to put anything on prepaid card for the government, that this is extremely bogus!
