Do you have a favorite place to walk?
While there are a handful of picturesque trails scattered throughout Michigan, only one is revered as the best place to hike.
Be it beautiful lake views, a glimpse at a glowing sunset sinking below a distant mountain range, or a birds-eye view of the sunrise making the dew painted on the leaves of a hundred trees sparkle around you, something about this trail sets it apart from the rest, so much so, that it's become a Michigan recommendation.
Some trails are traversed for their history, while others are admired for their peaceful lack of crowds. Regardless of why you choose to hike a trail, there is one glorious Michigan gem you must add to your list!
According to a list compiled by Backpacker Magazine, the best hike in Michigan is the 43-mile Greenstone Ridge Trail in Isle Royale National Park.
Here's what Backpacker Magazine (via hiker Amy S. Eckert) had to say about the absolute best place to hike in the state:
"Twenty miles in, the Greenstone breaks out of the forest. Wild roses and bluebells line the trail as it passes through thigh-high grass meadows. Scramble up exposed granite knobs or climb Mt. Ojibway’s old fire tower for views that open up to the area’s main attraction: Isle Royale’s narrow, rocky inlets to the east, Rock Harbor Lighthouse to the south, and Ontario to the north. At dusk, you’ll hear the tremolo calls of the island’s resident loons and, after dark, a million stars illuminate a sky free of light pollution. And you’ll have it all to yourself."
